I have been so crazy busy that I haven't had time to update my blog... and I have been really bad about keeping my happiness journal. SO I will just do some highlights from the past few weeks that I did happen to write down or remember. I promise to do better from now on with writing things down!! (Plus I don't want to forget all of the silly things these kids say.)
Things that made me happy the past few weeks...
- Making cell models out of Jell-O with my 8th graders
- September 17th - the start of the Adult Mentor program at San Miguel (I'm "in charge")
- Using a prezi in the 7th grade and them talking about "how fresh" it was
- The 8th grade saying even taking notes in my class is fun (I speculate it's because I am an insane teacher and am all over the place in the room while I'm talking)
- Some of the 8th graders asking, "Why aren't you just the 8th grade teacher?" (long story... but basically we no longer have an 8th grade teacher so we've all been covering different classes)
- Using "The Sunscreen Song" for prayer
- End of the day quote from a student on September 19: "Good-bye best teacher ever!"
- One of the staff members telling me that I'm doing a great job
- September 21: I wore my hair up in a ponytail. One student: "I like your ponytail." Later that day, another student: "Didn't you have long hair yesterday?"
- Getting a surprise picture from Gloria!!!
This is now hanging up on my bulletin board in my office!
- At the end of the day, hearing the 8th graders talk about how they're going to go pick up girls at the mall (hilarious)
- September 27: Singing a song about Photosynthesis to the tune of "The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air Theme song" ... it was epic. Later that day, one of the students: "If you put that on YouTube... you'd get a million hits." haha I love them.
- Saturday, September 29: Going to the Sidewalk Chalk Painting festival to "supervise" with the art teacher. There were 8 students there and they did wonderful! When I walked up the kids got really excited and one of them said, "Miss Myrtle!! I didn't know you we're coming!!" It was so cute =) Sadly, I can't put any pictures of them on here, but here are the pictures of their artwork:

- 8th grader: "I like you cuz you rap... but it teaches us." (that's the plan!)
- 8th grader: "Just kidding, Miss Myrtle... you know you're my favorite teacher." =]

- 6th grader: "You make math class fun!"
- October 3: Singing "NECAPs Baby" at assembly... This was a song about NECAPs to the tune of "Ice Ice Baby" that I wrote. NECAPs are the standardized tests in the New England states, and Wednesday was the start date... so another teacher and I rapped the song. The rest of the day I heard choruses of "NECAPs Baby..." in the halls!
- One of the staff members saying "I like you." to me and asking if I have signed up for my second year yet
- Staff member in regards to me: "This one's like the energizer bunny!"
- The 7th graders had to do group presentations on the properties of sound... they all chose to do a rap as part of their presentation... it was priceless!
- Singing about Cellular Respiration to the tune of Black Eyed Peas' "Boom Boom Pow" ... can you tell I like to sing/rap?? It wasn't one of my better songs but it was still good and now they're all singing, "Gotta get that EN-ER-GY!"
- October 4: Making bread with the 8th grade!! (Yay for yeast fermentation!!)

Yesterday was a good, relaxing day. I was happy to catch up on sleep and get all of my laundry done! Then at night we went to see the waterfire (a RI tradition) and then went out to a couple bars... finally getting to dance!!
This morning we went to a nice breakfast place and it was delicious. I will probably end up having another lazy day, maybe get ahead on my planning but YAY FOR NO SCHOOL TOMORROW!!
I absolutely love San Miguel. I love my kids. I love going to work every day. That being said, they exhaust me and I am very grateful for this 3 day weekend =)
